How we are managing the supply chain issues in Product Development
By now everyone is aware that the availability of key components is effecting virtually all industries. Medical device product development is no different. Primarily this has effected us in the design of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). Unfortunately the problem has not improved and we believe it will get worse before it gets better. So how do we address this problem? While there is no perfect solution, we have done two things to help our customers continue to achieve their desired timelines.
- We have moved the procurement and component selection tasks forward in our projects. We are selecting components based on availability in addition to its technical requirements.
- We have purchased components at risk early in the design. For electronics components if we see there is stock we purchase more than we need (in consultation with our customers). Even if we don’t end up using the components, it is rather inexpensive insurance to make certain that the developments can move forward.
Our customers have been very gracious and understanding with these strategies are we are fortunate to have great customers that understand the difficulties we are experiencing.
Thank you Omnica Customers!
