Four Game Changers for Innovating Maternal Health

November 18, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

When we think of childbirth in the U.S., many of us think of strength, joy, and life. Sadly, for far too many women living here, in one of the world’s wealthiest countries, the reality is much more dire. Maternal deaths and complication rates around the globe are decreasing, however rates are increasing across many parts of the U.S. Today, the U.S. is the most dangerous place in the developed world to give birth.[1] For Black mothers, the crisis is even more acute.

Every year in the U.S., approximately 50,000 mothers are severely injured and nearly 700 women die from pregnancy-related complications.[2] However, Black women in the U.S. are three and a half times more likely than white women to die after giving birth.[3] A statistic that tragically reveals growing racial health disparities for Black women.

Join us on November 18th for a conversation with leaders from Johnson & Johnson and the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) alongside the awardees of the Maternal Health QuickFire Challenge to discuss the maternal health crisis in the U.S. and innovative potential solutions that could help close the maternal mortality gap here in the U.S.
