Larry Hood
Larry joined Omnica in 2008 after having spent 11 years as a Chief Engineer and Director of Research and Development at VisiJet Inc./Advanced Refractive, where he developed high velocity Water-jet surgical systems for cornea modification and cataract removal. Prior to that he founded Refractec Inc. where he designed and developed a “conductive keratoplasty” system to modify the cornea.
Larry has over 40 years of experience with some of the giants in the industry including Hughes, Astrodata, Cavitron, CooperVision, Alcon, and Biomet. He has over 50 issued patents and has been the innovation source for several startups in the areas of Opthalomology, Orthopedics and Cardiology. He has done extensive work in clinical evaluations of electronic, complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, and fluidic systems for Allergan, Biomet, Chiron, W.L. Gore, Refractec, Mallinckrodt, Disney Televentures, Camino-Neurocare, Zinetix, Transit Control Systems, Relsys International, Aquarius Medical, Premier Laser, Nexus Medical Systems, SurgiJet, and CentaJet.
He was educated at the University of California at Berkeley.
