WIB-Southern California: Young Women In Bio – Genomes, Germs, and Jewelry – Part 1: DNA on Display!
July 1 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC-7
YWIB and its partners are offering three Experiential Learning Sessions this summer! Come and chat with STEM Influencers, while learning and making your own STEM-inspired jewelry designs. This event is for all skill levels – if you have not studied STEM before, come join us and learn; if you are used to STEM, hope you will still join us and have fun. STEM is a movement.
At our first event, “DNA on Display!”, we’ll be joined by 1) students from Biopolis – a student-run organization at Canyon Crest Academy that engages San Diego youth in exciting experiments in order to ignite an early love of science and 2) Kjerstie Bourne currently a sales representative at Elim Biopharmaceuticals and also the creator of a series of webinars introducing students to scientists in the San Diego area. Biopolis will teach us how to extract our own DNA from spit (eww!), which you can then transfer to a vial that can be worn as a necklace! Then Kjerstie will present various aspects of DNA science and services which Elim offers its customers.
