Omnica 2009 Pumpkin Party - BOO! Links to other years - 2008 , 2005, 2004
On Thursday the 29th we celebrated our annual Pumpkin Carve-off and party. We had 22 entries this year. Again, we all spent a lot of time coming-up with inventive ideas and executing them, pumpkin-style. Consider expressing yourself at next year's carve-off. everyone's welcome!
Ed built a snowman pumpkin, BobF came-up with something that only he understands (tried to explain, but only the EE guys got it), and RonB constructed a pumpkin jail. Henry sort of apologized to his rabbit Bucky after making him wear a pumpkin lobster outfit (picture inset) last night. Tom's chubby dog Toby is a "plumpkin", remaned "Pupkin" for the party.  Jeff surprises us every year with his imagination and his willingness to forego watching "Dancing with the Stars" and instead make time to contrive a unique pumpkin entry.

Kathryn's alien pumpkin masks looked like they belonged in a museum. She won one of the big prizes for her inspiration and execution.

Tim's entry, as usual (and expected at this point), was absolutely jaw-dropping. You should have seen everyone standing and gaping at Tim's creation while it performed. It consisted of a plasma with a pumpkin stuck on the screen that has eye holes and a mouth. A home-grown video played and Tim's eyes, lips, and arm movements were animated with sound. There are flashing lights, computer parts, and electronic boards that did who knows what? Follow the link to see it on YouTube. Trung is a fisherman, so his pumpkin had an anchovy for a tongue. His son Andy carved a Maori mask, and Barb quilted a pumpkin for her entry.
Kevin was also one of the big winners for his interpretation of the Nemo story complete with sound and lights. Larry is evidently well aware of the flu season dangers with his entry, "Sir Virus Punkie Fluie", now with musical  accompaniment when one waves their hand over the pumpkin's eyes. Mike brewed a pumpkin cauldron complete with flames, lights, and a glowing scarlet soup - complete with spooky sound effects. PaulB noodled what Barb and I imagine must be an intricately carved mouse, or something eerie seen only after midnight.
PaulG sourced outside help from his daughter Guilia, who proclaimed the masterpiece completed by stating, "It's very scary". Rex's alien squash was unearthly enough to warrant a popular win, accompanied by a prize he promptly donated to the mechanical engineering group. Oh . . .not really. RonS exercised his prodigious imagination by scripting this caption and introducing the couple Ty and Lacey, now permanently stitched together and ready to party.  Scott's inspired wooden pumpkin, framed in acrylic and aluminum set a new standard for imagination and elegance. I want one!
Dan was making fun of Ed's recent run-in with the law :-) while installing a remote computer system at Barb's house. (Call for details) Bob Mayercheck would rather be at the beach in Tahiti. You should see the details on the lounge chairs. Exquisite! Andy March was thinking Grateful Dead when he rolled-out his pumpkin-mobile with a G8FLDED license plate. Anthony cobbled a personal protection pumpkin with an operational Gatling gun.
