In
October 2000, The Association of Rotational Molders announced the winners
of its Annual Product Achievement Awards Competition.
The top product of the year was awarded to American Rotational Molding
Group, Inc. located in Anaheim, California. Omnica Corporation performed
the design and engineering for a surgical support cart (shown at right)
for a large company in California that specializes in ophthalmic products
and instrumentation.
Originally, the ophthalmic company hired
us for brainstorming and some design concepts.
The
scope of the project changed after we suggested that manufacturing costs
could be significantly reduced if they would
consider rotational molding, rather than structural foam for the cart
body. In this project we replaced 120 metal
parts (housing, hardware, and assembly) with a single housing made of
plastic.
- The weight savings was over
60 pounds and no painting was required afterwards.
Omnica has designed many rotomolded
parts, and has been doing so for years. If you are developing a product,
and you think rotomolding may be applicable, give us a call.

Volcano Therapeutics' "computer
cart" is another great rotational molding example.
